JD Vance is More Dangerous Than You Think

Today’s blog is longer than usual to provide some insights into Trump’s pick for vice-president – JD Vance.

Vance is more dangerous than you think. He will be the standard bearer for Christian Nationalism and the Project 2025 agenda far into the future - far beyond Trump and MAGA movement.

In his acceptance speech he said that he would be “a vice president who never forgets where he came from.”[1] Yet in Hillbilly Elegy, Vance portrays Appalachia as full of gun-toting, drug addicted lunatics aimlessly waiting for death.[2]

Despite his faux populist rhetoric, he perpetuates the myth that people are poor because the want to be poor.

Vance proclaims himself as 100% pro-life. In a 2022 podcast interview, Vance said that he would "like abortion to be illegal nationally," saying that a state-by-state patchwork of abortion law wouldn’t work.[3]

He applauded Texas’ abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest calling those circumstances “inconvenient.” [4],[5]

While proclaiming that he is pro-life and pro-family, Vance voted against the Right to IVF Act.[6] He has said “the childless left” should not be making decisions about the country’s future.[7]

Vance championed the false claims that the 2020 election was stolen and has downplayed the threat posed to Mike Pence. [8],[9] He has committed to doing what Mike Pence refused to do – allowing “multiple slates of electors,” despite no proof of election fraud, saying that “the U.S. Congress should have fought over it.”[10]

Vance embraced plans to weaponize the DOJ to go after his political enemies starting with President Biden.[11] Vance has also requested that the DOJ initiate a criminal investigation of Judge Juan Merchan, who presided over Trump’s criminal fraud trial in New York.[12]

Vance wrote a letter to the DOJ demanding a criminal investigation of journalist Robert Kagen[13] because Kagen wrote that the odds of an American dictatorship were “pretty good” and called for resistance against Trump.[14]

As Republicans like to say, “if they can do it to them, they can do it to you.”

Vance champions the “Great Replacement Theory” and believes that people of color can only succeed if they are given special treatment.[15],[16] He remained silent when Newmax’s Sebastian Gorka called Vice President Harris a “DEI hire” noting “[s]he’s a woman. She’s colored.”[17]

Vance also has a “cruel” record on LGBTQ issues.[18] Vance introduced a bill called the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, which would have banned transition-related medical care for minors making it a class C felony, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.[19]

Even before being selected as Trump’s vice-presidential candidate Vance supported elimination of marriage equality.[20]  The Republican platform that marriage as one man / one woman.[21] Adoption by gay couples is at risk under this agenda.

I could go on. JD Vance is an extremist in every sense of the word. He wants to establish a new religious order in America based on Christian Nationalist ideals.

Win or lose, Vance will not go away after the November election. He will be around causing untold agony and hardship for years to come.
