Trump Ignores the Supreme Court: Says He Won’t Repatriate Kilmar Abrego Garcia
In a major rebuke, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a judge’s order requiring the Trump administration to help return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident wrongly deported to El Salvador. Trump has refused to acknowledge to authority of the Court. Despite acknowledging the error, the administration claims it can't act due to El Salvador’s sovereignty. Abrego Garcia, who has lived in the U.S. with his citizen wife and held a work permit since 2019, was detained in a mega-prison. The court affirmed the government must help bring him back and restore his legal process.
Trump Cuts $500 Million Grant to Steel Plant in J.D. Vance’s Hometown
Despite pledging to revive U.S. manufacturing, the Trump administration cut a $500 million grant to modernize steel production in JD Vance’s hometown, jeopardizing 1,300 jobs and clean-tech upgrades. A $75 million Pennsylvania project is also at risk. Critics say Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency made the call, contradicting Trump’s agenda. The move sparks backlash over billionaire influence and raises doubts about the administration’s true commitment to American industry.
Trump’s Tax Plan: A Gift to Billionaires, a Threat to Everyday Americans
Speaker Mike Johnson and Republicans advanced a budget plan offering $5 trillion in tax breaks for the wealthy while proposing $1.5 trillion in cuts to programs like Medicaid and SNAP. Passed via reconciliation, the plan bypasses standard procedures. A CBO analysis warns it could add $6 trillion to the deficit. GOP infighting continues over deep cuts, especially to Medicaid, while critics call the plan a betrayal of working Americans and a giveaway to billionaires.
GOP Advances Permanent Trump Tax Cuts Amid Pushback by Democrats
In a narrow 51-48 vote, Senate Republicans passed a sweeping plan to extend Trump-era tax cuts and slash spending, despite internal GOP dissent and unified Democratic opposition. The $7 trillion proposal faces criticism for favoring the wealthy and threatening services like Veterans benefits, Medicare, and Medicaid. Democrats' amendments failed. The bill narrowly passed in a divided House. And heads to “reconciliations” to bypass the normal budgeting process. With midterms nearing, the battle over taxes, deficits, and Trump’s legacy intensifies.
